  • What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas on the hands and feet which correspond to all the glands, organs, and parts of the body.

Reflexology is the unique method of using the finger and thumb to work on these reflex areas which helps to alleviate the affects of stress by inducing deep relaxation. This must not be confused with the foot massage. It is a specific pressure technique which works precise points on the feet or hands.

What to expect in a Reflexology Session?

The Reflexology session takes place in a quiet, comfortable room with soft background music and a water garden with gentle flowing water. The feet are placed on two pillows and the relaxation begins. At the end of the session lotion is applied to the feet and the client is given a foot massage.

What is Pampered Feet and Reflexology?

Pampered Feet begins with a warm, soothing foot bath and a foot polish (to remove any dry skin). Progresses to the Reflexology Session and ends with lotion being applied to the feet and the client receives a foot massage. This session is about one hour to one hour and 15 minutes.

    History of Reflexology

Reflexology is not a new method of treatment. It goes back at least 5000 years when some form of pressure therapy was practiced in China, India and Egypt. The oldest documentation depicting the practice of Reflexology was unearthed in Egypt. This evidence, a pictograph dated around 2500-2300 BC, was found in the tomb of an Egyptian physician, Amkmahor, at Saqqara. The study and development of reflex therapy by pioneering Europeans and enterprising Americans laid the foundations of reflexology as we know it today. Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist,(1889-1974) is recognized as the founder of Foot Reflexology in the United States. It was through her untiring research and dedication that reflexology finally came into it’s own. She traveled throughout America for over thirty years as she taught her method through books, charts, and seminars to thousands of people. Today the legacy of Eunice Ingham continues under the direction of her nephew Dwight Byers. He runs the International Institute of Reflexology in St. Petersburg, Florida and conducts seminars in the United States and other countries.
